Giving Back

Cathedral Movers is committed to giving back to the communities in which we live and work.  We currently sponsor the following annual events:

Thanksgiving Dinner and Clothing Drive for the Homeless and Needy

Over twenty years ago Ruth Long, who passed away in 2008, started a grass roots Thanksgiving Dinner for the homeless and needy in the Dupont Circle area of Washington, DC.

Every year this event has grown thanks to the help of BCV member Gary Bledsoe.  On Thanksgiving Day we will serve between 400-500 homeless and needy  Additionally, after serving, plates will be taken to the ill, the lonely, seniors and people who are not able to prepare for themselves. Later in the day, food will be delivered to various charities serving the needy.

Volunteer opportunities consist of everything from bringing a dish, pie, soup etc. to setting up to serving to cleanup after. This is a true “grass-roots” event, with neighborhood businesses donating everything from printing to food to paper plates etc.

Cathedral Movers Annual Coat Drive for the Homeless

Cathedral Movers holds their Annual Coat Drive for the Homeless in January.

Please consider sorting through your closets, shelves and drawers for coats, vests, sweaters, scarves, gloves and thick socks for donation to help the homeless stay warm on the streets of Washington DC this winter.

Clothing will be picked up by Cathedral Movers volunteers and delivered to Union Rescue Mission, House of Ruth and Catholic Charities.
